Images produced in art psychotherapy sessions used to be kept under wraps, but there’s a growing movement to celebrate and exhibit the artworks that are produced in times of crisis.

Artwork created by teenagers at Snowsfields Adolescent unit, an acute psychiatric ward for young people aged 12-18, is now on show in the Long Gallery of the Maudsley Hospital until 26 September, curated by Dr Richard Corrigall, consultant psychiatrist and Valerie Hartland, art psychotherapist.

Richard discusses the motivations behind the show and Dr Amy Hardy, research clinical psychologist explains the added value of imagery in therapy here.
